My legs had begun to ease off somewhat at this stage
(maybe your body becomes used to what you throw at it). I left Ecclefechan
at 8:30 and picked up a fairly traffic free road before beginning a tough
climb out of Moffat. Although there was a slight headwind, the sunshine was
out in full glory today. Some of the scenery in this part of Scotland is
magnificent. After following the A701 and A703 I reached the south part of
Edinburgh at approximately 1:30pm. I knew I was going to find it difficult
getting through the city towards the Forth road bridge but did not want to
opt for the busy ring road either. After a couple of navigational errors and
asking for directions I finally made it through the city to the foot of the
bridge. After seeing the amount of traffic going across the bridge together
with the wind that was blowing that day I was so glad that there was a
dedicated cycle/walkway (I naively thought that I’d have to cycle across
with all of the traffic !!). The final leg of the journey seemed to take
forever. I reached Milanthort (just North of Kinross) at approximately 5:30.
The owner of the B&B explained that the nearest place to get an evening meal
was 2 miles away. She must have seen the disappointment in my face and
offered to drive me there although I did have to walk back in shorts,
t-shirt and flip flops (I must have looked a sight !!).
